ACCESS DESIGN SPECIALIST- Alpha One
This exciting and unique position offers the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities in Maine.
The Access Design Specialist provides access design information and assessment services directly to consumers, their families, providers, businesses, municipalities, schools, and the general public, in order to achieve full accessibility of buildings and programs in Maine.
- Provides information and technical assessment for implementing barrier-free access design to building owners, businesses, design professionals, service providers and people with disabilities to achieve access in personal and public environments. Maintains knowledge of adaptive equipment, access-related products and funding options.
- Completes on-site access evaluations, reviews building plans, and recommends barrier removal solutions, while adhering to the terms of the Service Authorization.
- Maintains complete customer files and data to fully record and organize services provided, progress made, and project completion. Prepares all required forms, data and reports in accordance with approved format.
- Keeps current on access-related laws, regulations and codes. Collaborates with public and private entities to ensure enforcement and improvements when appropriate.

Downtown Portland in the Arts District. Barba + Wheelock Architecture and Preservation is looking to share office space. Located on the second floor (gentle walk-up) of a 1949 mid-century modern building, we have about 1000 square feet of semi-private space to rent. Share use of our collating copier, schedule time after hours for our conference room overlooking Congress Street and otherwise enjoy office comradery. First office area is an open set up which can accommodate up about three people, a small niche for one other (both of these have others pass through); to the rear is a large private office for one to three people.
