AIA Maine announces the upcoming AIA Maine Design Awards 2008
to feature a jury of three national architects selected for their expertise in residential, commercial and institution architecture and site planning and design.
Eligibility & Qualifications:
Open to all registered, resident Maine architects with
primary headquarters in Maine. The lead design firm must meet the eligibility requirements for joint projects.
Criteria:
The jury will recognize projects of exceptional design quality. All buildings
types are eligible. Buildings must have been completed after January 1, 2003. Projects
outside Maine are eligible.
Registration and fee are due by February 15, 2008.
Late submittals will be accepted, but at an increased fee
Board Submittals will be due Friday, March 7, 2008.

Each entry must be mounted on two 20 x 20 x 1/2 foam core boards and include the following:
- No identification of entrant or project team
- Photographic and/or conceptual images and text to effectively describe the project
- Site Plan with north arrow
- Floor Plans
- Principal Building Elevations
- Do not shrink wrap or cover boards with glass or plexiglass
- Designate location for future attachment of a 2 x 3-1/2 business card
Each entry must include the following in a sealed envelope identified by affixed business card. Entries will be judged by the board presentation only. Jury will not see envelopes or enclosed information required for publication purposes.
- Architect identification and credits: architecture office, project architect, project team, consultants, client, general contractor, sub contractors where appropriate and project location
- Photo credit, with signed waiver from photographer
- A 2 x 3-1/2 business card to be fixed to one of the boards after judging
- Typed, double spaced 300 word project description for publication purposes; include design goals and description of design resolution
Each entry must include the following on a CD-ROM in protective case suitable for Macintosh based platform:
- Color images of project for publication
300 DPI resolution in Jpeg(.jpg) or TIFF (.tif) format
Images must be ready to print at a minimum of 8x10
Name each image file with a number and project title, example: 01 Smith Residence entry.jpg
- Digital text file (Microsoft Word preferred) of architect identification credits: architecture office, project architect, project team, consultants, client, general contractor, sub contractors where appropriate and project location
- Digital text file (Microsoft Word preferred) of typed, double spaced 300 word project description for publication purposes; include design goals and description of design resolution

Permission Form for Textual and Visual Works
For good and valuable consideration, the sufficiency and exchange of which is hereby
acknowledged, the undersigned hereby grants to the American Institute of Architects
Maine Chapter (AIA Maine) a non-exclusive license to use the work identified herein
and submitted in connection with the design awards program identified above, including
all text, brochures, drawings, photographs, graphics, plans, slides, books,
transparencies or other copyrightable material (Work), as follows:
This license permits the AIA Maine to use the Work, to reproduce, crop or resize it; to
display it publicly; and to distribute and transmit it worldwide in all media now known or
hereafter devised, including the internet, without payment of any royalty or license fee in
connection with the announcement of awards, if any, and the promotion of the design
awards program identified above.
The undersigned acknowledges that all copies of the work submitted in connection with
an entry in the design awards program identified above shall remain the property of the
AIA Maine, but that the copyright to the Work is NOT transferred to the AIA Maine. The
AIA Maine agrees to include in reproductions of the Work a reasonable copyright notice
and credit, provided that the necessary copyright and credit information are provided in
writing to the AIA Maine.
By submitting this Permission Form for Textual and Visual Works, the undersigned
represents that s/he has obtained all permissions that s/he believes are necessary to
grant the license granted by this Form and that the use or reproduction of the Work by
the AIA as permitted by this Form shall not,to the best of his/her knowledge, information
and belief, infringe or violate any other entityʼs copyrights.
The undersigned hereby agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the AIA Maine from and
against all claims and damages arising out of a breach of the foregoing representations.
