AIA Continuing Education

My sixth year as AIA Maine’s AIA/Continuing Education System coordinator, like all good things, has come to an end. Our new Project Coordinator Richard Willing has taken the reigns of this important activity, and I wish him well.

When I first got involved with AIA/CES, it was new and growing fast both in quality and the administrative effort needed to operate the program. Over the past few years, AIA Maine has sponsored and/or co-sponsored approximately 50 events per year providing valuable continuing education. The Continuing Education System has evolved as part of our architectural profession in a changing and challenging world.

As my participation in this service comes to a close, I would note that during the last few years AIA/CES has become very accessible and well organized. I would urge members to use the AIA eClassroom at www.aia.org/nav_eclassroom/ for state-of-the-art courses on design, business practice, contract document, codes, environmental issues and more. There are more than 200 courses that can be taken anywhere and at anytime.

When the State of Maine joins the other states that mandate continuing education for architectural license renewal (and AIA Maine supports this concept), we must work diligently to have the AIA/CES as part of the law.

(AIA Maine extends its deepest appreciation to Quentin whose outstanding efforts on behalf of the AIA Continuing Education System have made a lasting contribution to the professional development of our members. Thank You, Q.)
