As of January 1, 2006, the State of Maine will be using a new plumbing code based on the 2000 Uniform Plumbing Code. There are many major changes. One of these changes that I have discovered is 413.3 of the new code requiring separate toilet facilities for each sex with three exceptions (1) residential, (2) occupancies serving 10 or fewer people where one single user toilet is allowed and (3) in businesses and mercantiles with a total floor area of 1500 square feet or less where a single user toilet is allowed.
To order a copy of the new code, call 1-800-854-2766 and ask for the Maine State Internal Plumbing Code (approximately $74).
