Carol A. Wilson
The AIA has elevated 66 architects to its prestigious College of Fellows, an honor awarded to members who have made contributions of national significance to the profession.
Out of a membership of more than 74,000, there are fewer than 2,500 AIA members distinguished with the honor of fellowship. It is conferred on architects with at least 10 years of membership in the AIA who have made significant contributions in the following areas: the aesthetic, scientific and practical efficiency of the profession; the standards of architectural education, training and practice; the building industry through leadership in the AIA and other related professional organization; advancement of living standards of people through an improved environment; and to society through significant public service. Carol A. Wilson of Carol A. Wilson, Architect, of Falmouth, Maine, was elected to receive this honor because of her contributions to promote the aesthetic, scientific and practical efficiency of the profession of architecture through a distinguished body of work. “Carol Wilson’s work demonstrates her passion for creating beauty and meaning inherent in the best design of any thing. The care and respect of the environment and its inhabitants, down to the finest detailing, is manifest in all her design.”
The new Fellows, who are entitled to use the designation “FAIA” following their names, will be invested in the College of Fellows at the 2005 AIA National Convention and Expo in Las Vegas on May 20, 2005.
The 2005 Jury of Fellows was chaired by Lawrence W. Speck, FAIA, Page Southerland Page, Austin, Texas. Other jury members were Lee H. Askew III, FAIA, Anfa Architects, Inc., Memphis; Louis Astorino, FAIA, Pittsburgh; J. Delaine Jones, PhD, FAIA, New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal, Albany, N.Y.; Mark Eddington, FAIA, LMN Architects, Seattle; Lorri D. Sipes, FAIA, Ann Arbor, Michigan.; and Joseph J. Wisnewski, FAIA, PE, Wisnewski Blair and Associates, Ltd., Alexandria, Virginia.
Former Maine Fellows include John Calvin Stevens, FAIA, Philip Wadsworth, FAIA, Alonzo Harriman, FAIA and Gridley Barrows, FAIA.
AIA Maine is truly proud of Carol and her significant achievement. For members and friends of Maine’s architectural community, the Chapter will be hosting a reception in her honor on April 28, 2005, 4PM-5:30PM, at the McClellan House of the Portland Museum of Art.
