Design Awards Chairman 2006
The 2006 AIA Maine Design Awards program has a revised schedule to allow time for photography and the preparation of submittals. The goal remains the same—to celebrate and promote the design excellence of Maine architects.
The competition is open to all registered, resident Maine architects with primary headquarters in Maine. Buildings must have been completed after January 1, 2003. A three-person jury from outside the state of Maine will judge the submittals.
The initial Call for Entries will be mailed in September 2005 with a final Call for Entries in February 2006. The entries will be due no later than March 1, 2006, at a location to be determined in the Portland area.
The format will be similar to that of previous programs:
The Awards presentation and exhibit is scheduled for June 6, 2006, at Colby College in Waterville. It is hoped that one of the jurors will be available to speak about the jury selection and architecture in Maine.
We are planning to compile a small booklet featuring all of the 2006 entries, the award winners and selected jury comments. Sponsors, entry fees and sale of the awards publication will underwrite the program, as in the past.
The AIA Maine Design Awards Committee welcomes your input and potential juror suggestions. Please contact me at 207-774-0111 or email at rob@ww-architects.com with your thoughts and comments. I look forward to hearing from you.
