SO, GO WRITE A BOOK. WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL?

On Wednesday, December 1, 2005, at Portland’s Gulf of Maine Research Institute, AIA Maine will be celebrating its 70th anniversary with a program on writing and publishing.

The afternoon event will consist of an annual business meeting, tour of the facility and a program of presentations and discussions with the following guests:

Program notice with details will follow, but mark your calendars today for this event that should deliver a degree of enlightenment to the world of architectural publishing. Many thanks go to Robert Knight for his time and effort in securing this terrific panel of speakers.

AIA Maine President John Gordon and ACM President John Sturgeon

AIA Maine President John Gordon and ACM President John Sturgeon review a list of future topics for the Joint Industry Council at the September meeting.

Looking for a Few Good...

AIA Maine wants to expand. Many important issues continue to be topical in our changing world. Some think we could do more. At the August 2005 Executive Committee Retreat, it was agreed that an issue-based committee approach be adopted. As issues come and go, so may committees. It has also been suggested that each committee be responsible for providing one program per year for the membership. In addition to existing committees currently working on 2006 Design Awards, Continuing Education, Grassroots Leadership Network and Bylaws Update, other possible committees include Maine’s own Committee on the Environment (COTE), design, building codes and government agency (i.e. BGS, DOE, local, etc.). Might there be interest to form regional committees to address common concerns depending upon location (north, downeast/coastal, south/Portland, etc.)? Maybe you’ve got an issue that warrants an AIA Maine committee? Now is the time. If interested, please contact Judith Harvie, Executive Director at jharvie@adelphia.net.

AIA’s Displaced Architects Fund

On behalf of the AIA Maine membership, the Chapter donated $750 to the Displaced Architects Fund in September. The money is a donation through the American Architectural Foundation to assist architects and their firms in need.
